Driving lessons

Everybody has to learn sometime, so there is no need to be apprehensive.

Just put yourself in our capable hands and we will patiently, safely and professionally bring you through the process of learning to drive.

We take a step-by-step approach to teaching and guiding you to become a confident and proficient driver using the correct theory and methods. You will be brought through the rules of the road, and taught to drive competently with proper regard for the safety and convenience of other road users. You will also learn the main manoeuvres that are required for your test i.e. the Turnabout (3-Point, 5-Point etc), the Hill Start and Reversing around a Corner.

Your training car will be easy to handle and compact. Dual controls are fitted. Your driving instructor can take control of the vehicle as required. This is important for your safety and that of other road users, particularly in the beginning.

Students will be gently introduced to the theory of safe driving, basic vehicle control and safety checks before actually gaining some driving experience in a quiet area. As you gain confidence you will be brought onto normal roads and learn to deal with all types of traffic and road regulations.

Initially, you may feel that you have too many things to remember, but you will quickly develop into a comfortable phase where the controls are managed smoothly and without difficulty.

Our training will follow a logical sequence of planned progression. This can be tailored to suit each individual's needs. It will take account of your experience and confidence.

The goal is to prepare you to pass the driving test and become a competent and safe driver. It will be achieved at a pace that maintains your interest and motivation, and not drag on endlessly. Our aim is that you will enjoy and look forward to your driving lessons. You will be able to see your progress.

We want to provide you with the best possible start in motoring.

Tips for learners

  • Read and understand the Rules of the Road.
  • Learn your road signs and theory carefully.
  • Read and understand the Rules of the Road.
  • Use your mirrors as much as possible and be always aware of your surroundings. Wing mirrors can distort your sense of distance. Always allow plenty of room when changing lanes or overtaking.
  • Remember and practice the correct sequence of actions: Mirrors, Signal and Position.
  • Be aware of traffic signals, road signs and markings
  • Maintain a high level of observation, looking in your mirrors often and looking over your shoulder when changing lanes or, pulling out, turning or on roundabouts.
  • Learn to detect hazards and potential hazards.
  • Use 'pull / push' steering method. Feed the steering wheel from one hand to the other, never crossing your hands, but keeping each hand to its own side of the wheel.
  • Make sure you wear comfortable shoes - heavy boots or high heels make it hard to feel and control the pedals.
  • Schedule and prioritise your driving lessons. Cancellations at short notice may have to be charged.
